Your music can generate more money than you may have realized. Without a music publishing admin, you’ll miss out on mechanical royalties from download sales in territories outside the U.S., plus mechanicals for worldwide streaming (on platforms like Spotify). If these royalties go uncollected, they may disappear. These mechanical royalties cannot be collected by your performing rights organization (such as ASCAP or BMI). When CD Baby administers your publishing rights, we will only collect the publisher's share of your performance royalties; you will still get 100% of your songwriter share of performance royalties from your P.R.O.

Performing Rights Organization affiliation and administration

Not already registered with a performing rights organization? For US and Canadian artists, we’ll save you the trouble and affiliate you with either ASCAP or BMI in the US, or SOCAN in Canada. For other countries where we offer CD Baby Publishing, if you are unaffiliated, we’ll guide you to how to join your appropriate performing rights organization. If you are affiliated with a Performing Rights Organization already, CD Baby Publishing will become the administrator of your publishing. In each scenario, you will still be paid your writer share directly by the Performing Rights Organization.

Get your songs registered worldwide

Your songs will be registered with music collection societies around the world, including Performing Rights Organizations (like ASCAP, BMI, PRS), Mechanical Rights Organizations (like HFA, MCPS) and other key music registration platforms. Reason #1 that songwriters miss out on royalties owed to them is not having a publisher or publishing administrator. Reason #2 is failure to properly register songs.
